Warm welcome for Philippine Delegation at ASEAN-Australia Summit

A reception hosted by the Australian Philippines Business Council (ABPC) Inc. and leaders of the Filipino community in NSW welcomed the Philippine delegation to Australia for the first ever summit for ASEAN leaders.

The welcome event was headed by the Special Representative of the President – Secretary of Foreign Affairs Alan Peter Cayetano. Mr Cayetano was joined by Secretary of Trade & Industry Ramon Lopez, National Security Advisor Hermogenes Esperon, Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo, and Taguig City Mayor Maria Laarni Lopez-Cayetano.

The event featured presentations about the Philippines’ contribution to regional security and prosperity, and initiatives to secure greater opportunities for Australian investments in the Philippines.

Currently, the Philippine economy is growing at a rate of 6.7%, making it the second fastest growing economy in Asia.

The summit marked a new era of economic partnership and political dialogue with Australia’s nearest neighbours.
