Navajo Dancer Patrick Willie takes hoop dance to an international audience
Tiktok is playing an important role in teaching culture to indigenous youth across the world.
Navajo (pronounced Navaho) Dancer Patrick Willie has taken the hoop dance to an international audience and is teaching Native American youth about their culture in a fun way on the platform of their choice.
Hoop dancing is used in healing ceremonies and is fun, creative and inclusive with performances by both genders.
It is also a great storytelling medium with animal totem representations used to tell narratives.
Great to see culture continuing and adapting – old stories being told in new ways.
